Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation review

22:28

I bought the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation online from Debenhams and I used Kat's official website to try and figure out what my shade was as Debenhams don't seem to show individual shade swatches on their site.

I settled on Medium 57 Warm, ordered it and it arrived a few days later.

Kat Von D Lock It Foundation - Shade Medium 57 Warm

I really like the packaging. I think it looks very sleek and stylish while not being too over the top or flashy.

Looking at the foundation through the bottle, my first impression was that I might've picked a shade that was slightly too dark. But once it was on my face and blended, it was totally fine for the first few uses (I'll address that more in a bit).

The foundation doesn't have a strong scent but it is a bit of a chemical-like smell, if that makes any sense. It's not super heavy on your face either.

A downside is that if you pump out even slightly too much or dot too much around on your face, it will go very cakey *very* fast.

I feel like it dries really quickly as well so once it's out of the bottle, you need to start blending it into your face straight away.

I have combination skin but the sides of my nose by/around my nostrils do get quite dry and I found that this foundation didn't cling to those dry patches or make them super obvious at first but after like 20-30 minutes, it would look very patchy and it looked like it was basically peeling off my face. But this might be different for anyone else depending on what moisturiser/primer you use and what your skin is like.

Oilier parts of my face, such as where my glasses rest on my nose and the centre of my forehead, did need to be set with quite a lot of powder and even then the foundation seemed to just slide off after a few minutes so it might not be so good for people with very oily skin.

It is very full coverage and did last for most of the day. I've found that it doesn't start sliding off my face if I do get like a bit sweaty on a hot day but it doesn't seem to fully dry down regardless of the temperature?? Like if I touch my face even slightly or my collar brushes against my chin, the foundation transfers onto my fingers/shirt.

Back to the shade issue, for the first few uses the foundation seemed to be a perfect match but after a while it seemed to get more orange. It literally looked like it had oxidised in the bottle or something so I'm not sure what's going on with that but now I only use this foundation to darken others when I've bought a shade that's too light for me.

Considering the negatives I've had with this foundation in the last 5 months, I don't think it was worth the money. The only ongoing benefit of having it is that its just the right shade to mix in with my Too Faced foundation to stop it washing me out but I kind of do regret buying this in the first place.

Like I said before, it might be different for you based on your skin type, etc. but I personally don't like this foundation by itself and it sucks that it was so good the first few times just to become a disappointment every time after that.
