Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism palette review

16:34

This is probably super late considering the Prism palette was supposed to be limited edition for the holidays** but I'm posting it anyway.

I got the Prism palette as a Christmas (2017) present from my boyfriend and I think it might actually be my favourite ABH palette so far??

As far as the comparisons to Subculture and the drama surrounding that palette, I don't think Prism looks anything like that palette and the shadows definitely perform a million times better than Subculture did.

I've been using the palette almost every single day since I got it and I've only just hit pan on my most used shade (Saturn).

The ABH Prism palette - outer packaging
The packaging is the same velvet packaging as the Modern Renaissance, Subculture and the new Soft Glam palette - (post on SG coming soon). I personally really like the velvet packaging like it feels really nice and it looks super cute too but it just gets so dirty so fast. While Prism looks so good with black packaging, the black makes it even easier for dust and glitter, etc., to show up on the palette which is annoying but not annoying enough for me to hate it.

I also really like the fact that ABH didn't just print the name of the palette on the front like they've done with their other palettes - I think it makes the palette really stand out as like a special, limited edition thing.

My palette after almost daily use since December 26th (as of March 2018)
The shades are as follows:

Lucid: Duo chrome white gold with pink reflect
Eden: Ultra-matte coral pink
Unity: Ultra-matte nude ochre
Sphinx: Metallic warm bronze
Osiris: Metallic midnight violet with red reflect
Sphere: Ultra-matte electric green-yellow
Obsidian: Ultra-matte deep black
Dimension: Duo chrome silver-grey with pink reflect
Parallel: Ultra-matte truffle
Pyramid: Metallic yellow gold with green reflect
Throne: Metallic blackened blue-green with multicolor reflect
Saturn: Ultra-matte terracotta
Eternal: Metallic violet copper
Lure: Ultra-matte ashy lilac

All of the matte shades are so buttery and soft. You get a lot of pigment and product with just the lightest tap into the shadow pan. They blend out so easily, like, literally a child could do a super blended glam look with this palette.

The shimmers are also very pigmented and soft - even without spraying your brush with setting spray/MAC fix +/etc.

One shadow I'm not a massive fan of is Lucid. The colour and its reflect are super nice and it comes out very pigmented and blinding when swatched with your finger but it has a very different texture compared to the other shimmer/metallic shades so when you try to pick up product with a brush, it doesn't pick up as much product and it doesn't seem as pigmented. If it was the same texture as the other shimmers/metallics, it would've been a lot better.

For both finger and brush swatches: Lucid on the left and Pyramid on the right
Swatched on my little sisters arm
Overall, I honestly love this palette. The shadows blend easily and look gorgeous on any skin tone.
I think I would rather have this palette as a permanent product** over Subculture but either way, super glad I was given this.

The Prism palette is available online on the ABH UK site, Beauty Bay and Cult Beauty for £43.

** As far as I have been able to find, Prism was supposed to be limited edition for the holidays but is still currently available. It has been put on sale for £33 recently and you can use a student discount code on it on Beauty Bay. I'm not sure if it will be made permanent at some point or when it'll become unavailable.

Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation review

22:28

I bought the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation online from Debenhams and I used Kat's official website to try and figure out what my shade was as Debenhams don't seem to show individual shade swatches on their site.

I settled on Medium 57 Warm, ordered it and it arrived a few days later.

Kat Von D Lock It Foundation - Shade Medium 57 Warm

I really like the packaging. I think it looks very sleek and stylish while not being too over the top or flashy.

Looking at the foundation through the bottle, my first impression was that I might've picked a shade that was slightly too dark. But once it was on my face and blended, it was totally fine for the first few uses (I'll address that more in a bit).

The foundation doesn't have a strong scent but it is a bit of a chemical-like smell, if that makes any sense. It's not super heavy on your face either.

A downside is that if you pump out even slightly too much or dot too much around on your face, it will go very cakey *very* fast.

I feel like it dries really quickly as well so once it's out of the bottle, you need to start blending it into your face straight away.

I have combination skin but the sides of my nose by/around my nostrils do get quite dry and I found that this foundation didn't cling to those dry patches or make them super obvious at first but after like 20-30 minutes, it would look very patchy and it looked like it was basically peeling off my face. But this might be different for anyone else depending on what moisturiser/primer you use and what your skin is like.

Oilier parts of my face, such as where my glasses rest on my nose and the centre of my forehead, did need to be set with quite a lot of powder and even then the foundation seemed to just slide off after a few minutes so it might not be so good for people with very oily skin.

It is very full coverage and did last for most of the day. I've found that it doesn't start sliding off my face if I do get like a bit sweaty on a hot day but it doesn't seem to fully dry down regardless of the temperature?? Like if I touch my face even slightly or my collar brushes against my chin, the foundation transfers onto my fingers/shirt.

Back to the shade issue, for the first few uses the foundation seemed to be a perfect match but after a while it seemed to get more orange. It literally looked like it had oxidised in the bottle or something so I'm not sure what's going on with that but now I only use this foundation to darken others when I've bought a shade that's too light for me.

Considering the negatives I've had with this foundation in the last 5 months, I don't think it was worth the money. The only ongoing benefit of having it is that its just the right shade to mix in with my Too Faced foundation to stop it washing me out but I kind of do regret buying this in the first place.

Like I said before, it might be different for you based on your skin type, etc. but I personally don't like this foundation by itself and it sucks that it was so good the first few times just to become a disappointment every time after that.

Kat Von D's Lock-It Foundation is available at Debenhams for £27 online and in store.

Bleach London - Total Bleach Kit & The Big Pink review

19:56

In April 2016, I decided to change my hair from blue to pink. So far, no colour removers or other bleach had worked at getting it blonde enough for me to change it to any other colour so I was kind of giving up and just letting my hair grow out to the point where more than half of my hair was my natural black colour and the bottom half was bright blue.

I saw that Boots were stocking Bleach London products and I wanted to try the pink hair dye they have when I saw that they also do a bleach kit. So, I decided to buy the dye and the bleach kit and on my birthday, I bleached and dyed my hair.

The hair dyes are £5 for the individual 150ml bottles and the Total Bleach Kit is £7.

The bleach kit includes:

1 bottle of developing lotion (peroxide) 80ml
2 x 25g sachets of bleaching powder
1 conditioning repairing mask 50ml
1 tint brush for easy application
1 mixing bowl
1 pair of gloves
1 instruction leaflet.

The instructions for the bleach are super easy to follow regardless of how inexperienced you are with doing your own hair at home.

One thing I noticed once the bleach was all mixed and ready to use is that the smell of it isn't as overpowering as other bleach products I'd used in the past. Before trying this bleach kit, I had used some random bleach I bought from Sally's (it was quite some time ago now so I don't remember which one that was).

The bleach I bought from Sally's would usually leave my hair very yellowy and it didn't seem to fully bleach my hair properly no matter how long I left it in or how many time I bleached/toned my hair but this bleach kit would get my black hair to a white-ish blonde. It wasn't platinum blonde or anything but it got it as blonde as I needed it to be.

As for the dye, the bottle is kind of annoying because when you start getting to the bottom of it, it's a lot harder to get what's left of the product out. But as for the actual hair dye itself, a little bit of it mixed with a conditioner of your choice just dyes your hair a bright colour while also conditioning it (obviously).

The first time I did this, my hair turned out a pretty light where it had been blonde and where there was still some leftover blue on the ends, it went purple. But every time since, my hair has turned out very bright and the colour is even.

The dye doesn't have a strong or nasty scent and it has quite a thick texture and consistency while in the bottle. It's also super easy to use and apply and you get quite a lot of product in the bottle for only £5. It lasts ages (depending on how much you use in a sitting and how often you decide to redye your hair) and the colour doesn't fade from your hair very fast, despite it saying on the bottle that it fades out in 2-10 washes.

The only issue I had with the bleach kit was that there was slightly too little bleach to cover all my hair but not too little that it would've been worth using 2 boxes for 1 overall bleach. And the only issue I had with the dye was the previously mentioned problem with getting product out of the bottle. Other than that, I love these products,  they're well worth the money if you want to do your hair at home and it doesn't hurt that they're fairly inexpensive and easy to find and buy.

You can buy the Bleach London products from Boots (online or in store) or from the Bleach London site itself.

UPDATE 03/11/17: I think Bleach London must've changed some ingredients or how much they actually put in the bottle but when I used this bleach about a month or so ago, there was nowhere near enough to cover all of my hair and it didn't bleach it as light as it did before so I've had to switch to a different brand. It's a shame it seems to have changed and just gone so bad since it was a really good bleach but whatever I guess.

Anastasia Beverly Hills - Modern Renaissance Palette review

19:06

At the start of November, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette came back in stock on Cult Beauty and I managed to get my hands on it. I thought this palette looked beautiful and the colours, the pinks/reds in particular, were exactly the ones I needed. Added bonus was that pretty much everyone posting about it was just going on and on about how amazing this palette was.

I was obviously slightly wary about the fact that all those people posting were beauty bloggers/make-up artists with large followings and so they were potentially being paid to say nice things, etc. But I bought the palette anyway and honestly, I think it's amazing.

The shadows are so soft and buttery when swatched with my finger and they blend beautifully. These eye shadows are honestly so pretty and pigmented and there's so much you could do with them. The colours all compliment each other really well and they are such a high quality (which you should expect from a £41 palette). There is quite a bit of excess powder that comes up when you dip your brush into the shadows but so far, for me at least, it hasn't been enough to make a massive mess.

The packaging of the palette is also incredibly pretty but while the velvet is nice to look at and touch, it does collect a lot of lint and dirt quite easily which doesn't pair well with eyeshadows that have as much kickback as the eyeshadows in this palette.

The shades, as listed on Cult Beauty, are as follows:

Top Row:
Tempera - ultra-matte velveteen beige
Golden Ochre - matte earth-toned yellow
Vermeer - iridescent shell pink
Buon Fresco - matte antique lavender
Love Letter - ultra-matte raspberry
Cyprus Umber - matte dark coffee
Bottom Row:
Raw Sienna - matte, neutral amber
Burnt Orange - deep matte orange
Primavera - shimmering gold dust
Red Ochre - ultra-matte red stone
Venetian Red - matte crimson
Warm Taupe - earth-toned grey
Realgar - ultra-matte brick

Overall, the Modern Renaissance palette is a must have for pretty much any make-up lover, particularly those that want a palette that has stunning and pigmented pops of pinky reds and oranges paired with some neutral shades and it's now a permanent part of the ABH line so you don't have to worry about missing out.

You can get the Modern Renaissance palette on Cult Beauty, Beauty Bay or the new Anastasia Beverly Hills UK website.
